About The Artwork

After I've experimented in the fields of music and theater for several years, I started to deal about visual arts. I've been charmed by artists who strongly influenced my search and I've wanted to tribute them, reworking their stylistic characteristics with the point of view of my job. So I dedicated them an homage. In particular I've felt really close with Rotko and with the concepts expressed through his works. "Homage to Mark Rotko" is composed by a couple of little on canvas, quoting his typical shades. These paintings are presented together with some rusty iron elements with lots decorations like Rotko would had never done. The presence of iron can overcome the shyness in imitating the master and the off the charts dimension want to mark a respectful distance to him and together underline how big his work was. When you look at his vibrant colour hypnotic works, you feel like you're looking into something, like a parallel universe, or a way out of this reality. This is not but a passage, so everything you compete with since your birth is. These are the themes that moved me to create the "Arches" (huge sculptures to cross for realizing this passage) and "Archetypes" series (an ironic term to mark the passage from the inside to the outside). This path represents the life we look at and the detachment the audience uses until he realizes he already reached the horizon that seemed impregnable.

Many of Ignazio Romeo’s exhibitions were born with the idea that his works should fit into a place completing each other, in order to interact with the setting and not only be hosted. His desire and his ambition is to enhance dialogue between context and content, being able to achive an unexplored artistic dimension. Romeo’s act is apparently simple, but it investigates on the contrast between the work and his exhibition place, the external and the internal, what you are and what you are not. The themes of space and time, like memory and oblivion, clash of opposites, together with experimental materials and techniques, make Romeo an artist who steadily try to improve his art.
