‘Hypnotic’ depicts two Maiko san admiring Fuji san, Japan’s iconic mountain. Seeing Fuji san in person is a magical experience, the mountain rises up out of the mostly flat landscape which makes is seem even larger and more majestic. She’s also illusive, often shrouding herself in fog and clouds, which was the case the first time we visited. We had rain the entire drive, we left the highway and had to drive around the mountain to get to our destination, the entire time seeing nothing but a grey fog. About 20 minutes from our destination we entered a tunnel and when we emerged on the other side the sky was blue and Fuji san loomed over us, larger then life, an enchanting and other worldly experience. This mixed media painting on authentic, handmade Washi (Japanese paper). This particular sheet of washi is crafted by meticulously glueing together a variety of colored papers that have little pieces of gold and silver leaf embedded into it. It has been lovingly crafted into a traditional ‘Kakejiku’ (Japanese hanging scroll) in Nagoya, Japan. The painting is created using a combination of image transfer and acrylic paints and mediums. The artwork is signed on the front and has title, date, artist name on the back. It comes with a signed certificate of authenticity from the artist. Please not that, because of the impasto paint on the top of the pieces, this piece can only be partially rolled. Be advised that colors and brightness depend on your monitor and the digital picture may be slightly different from the original work of art. The artist retains all reproduction and copyrights.

Leaving the Netherlands was a breeze. Japan didn’t scare me, America didn’t intimidate and Canada is as easy-going as it gets. The thing that frightens me, is creating Art. For the longest time, I believed I was the master of my craft. I strode into my studio with confidence to create bodies of work like Traveling the World and World on Washi. In my bubble, I reigned supreme. Then, one day I realized that the spaces I thought I controlled were fortified by the perceived expectations of the people around me. Their silent influence spawned countless rules, suffocating the artist within. It dawned on me—I shouldn't be making the rules at all. I have been creating Art for a decade and a half, and right now my studio in Canada is the most terrifying and exhilarating place to be. Inside, the Art decides the destination, where it leads I will follow. An old man once told me: “It’s dangerous to go alone!” So, will you join me on this quest? Together we will explore ‘Unveiling’ a boundless realm of vibrant hues and delicate textures. Step into my world, explore my art and meet the versions of myself I once knew. Let's embark on an adventure of discovery.
