Italian for a thousand flowers, Millefiori embraces the artist’s love of flowers and travel. Gestural marks and movements combine to form a composition that varies with the viewer’s tendencies: a loosely splayed flower at the micro-level might be experienced as an enveloping abstract landscape by someone with a more macro viewpoint. In creating each piece, the artist builds innumerable layers of translucent color to yield delicate, ethereal tonal effects over raw Belgian linen. Structurally, the artist renders compositions loosely inspired from hazy, fleeting memories of places and moments experienced during extensive international travels over 30 years. By limiting mark-making to imprecise, free-flowing movements, the lack of contextual representation conveys a sense of ambiguity and universality. These intentionally vague abstract works straddle a space that feels both familiar and imagined, like a bewildering daydream. This oversized artwork is painted on Belgian Linen over hardwood panel and is framed in a whitewashed solid wood float frame.
