In this piece 'I Felt Like A Car Crash' the artist Zoe continues to describe a painful breakup. This dark piece conveys the artists feelings of hopelessness and loss of identity that comes with the leaving of a home and a person. The piece starts with a tragic and brutal use of charcoal being forced into the surface of the canvas as the artist pleads to find solace in creation. Zoe's use of charcoal shows pure force and emotion as the charcoal splinters and breaks leaving a dust cloud on the surface beneath harsh violent lines. The main text reads "I felt like a car crash - written off. Compacted. Complicated. Muddled," here the artist admits feeling lost outside of the relationship. Just above this the artist notes "The sun fell and scorched me" embellished with small naïve sun sketches. Here Zoe conveys a notion of being alone in the world, where such narratives could play out and effect only her, in this scenario, the sun falls down on her and her alone. She is scorched, scolded almost as though she has made a grand mistake ending her relationship and has a childish response to such punishment as to blame the sun. Finally to the upper left of the piece, Zoe writes "I died on Tuesday and woke in love on Wednesday". The artist here toys with new relationships but yet cannot seem to stop the persistent yoyo'ing between death and love in a series of heightened emotions that dictate her realties daily. This piece is shipped on loose canvas in a large tube, the buyer can frame on receipt.
