ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painted on cradled clayboard with 1.5 inch side depth and can be hung with our without frame. Sides have been left upainted to show the raw wood (see detail photos). My first real use of mixed media within a painting. I wanted this piece to show all of the subtle shifts in light and texture that we may sometimes overlook. The sitting figure is covered in vintage wallpaper that I found at a flea market many years ago while living in San Francisco. It was the perfect compliment to the terra cotta pots in the painting. Through depictions of architecturally infused landscapes as well as watercolor studies of wildlife, I aim to explore the interplay between memory, nature, and our symbiotic relationship with the environment. By building thin watercolor washes and opaque layers of paint, I seek to create a visual narrative that captures the essence of landscapes and their connection to human experiences. Just as layers of paint intertwine and interact, so too do our actions and experiences shape the spaces we inhabit. By depicting these complex levels within the landscape, I hope to evoke a sense of nostalgia and trigger memories in viewers. These memories serve as a gateway to reflect on our personal connections to the natural world and the impact it has on our lives. I believe that our connection to the environment is not only physical but also deeply emotional and spiritual. In my art, I strive to capture this interconnectedness, showcasing both the beauty and fragility of this bond. It is my hope that this will prompt viewers to consider their own role in shaping the environment and the importance of nurturing a harmonious coexistence with nature.

Meredith O'Neal is a Texas native who specializes in paintings depicting wildlife and the natural world. Though interested in art from a very young age, Meredith didn't take her first painting class until her freshman year of college at Texas State University. She received her undergraduate degree in both Painting and Photography a few years later. She then moved to California and received a masters degree in painting at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2012. Meredith has since moved back to Texas where she now lives and works near Houston as a full time artist with her husband and two young children. She enjoys traveling and spending most weekends on her family's ranch property in Huntsville, Texas. It is there that she finds a lot of her artistic inspiration and is often exploring the grounds in search of wildlife and collecting natural treasures such as feathers, cow bones, and plants for observation. email: Website: Follow on Instagram:
