About The Artwork

The Imo Miri deity is the female deity of the Imo River in southeastern Nigeria. This is part of a series of paintings using the uli art style from the Igbo people of Nigeria which are a collection of ideographic designs mainly used by Igbo women. The influence of African art on cubist and abstract works of art in the west has become more recognised over the years, this is a further look into the marriage of West African art with the west in the form of graphic styles (uli) and medium.
