About The Artwork

“In Search Of” reads like a research paper on past civilizations. In search of what was lost and the search for the truth. Beneath the tonal umbers, patches of gold and medium to dark brown lives a history lesson. This piece speaks to what African Americans lost with our connection to the East as black people to our roots, heritage, dialect and resources. The images embedded here tell the story laced with symbolism. It not as concretely defined as it is suggested. Hidden in plain sight sits a pyramid representing the ancient Egyptians. The pyramid is flanked by a small herd of elephants representing endangerment. The lower levels of the Tower of Babel along with the color gold are sprinkled throughout. The gold signifies wealth or in this case a wealth resource that was taken during colonialism in Africa. It is said that colonialism started in 1880 and ended in 1914.
