About The Artwork

I have been studying near death experiences for about 30 years as a way to find meaning in the losses that our family has endured. This painting was inspired by the almost universal experience of a bright light that imparts unconditional love so intensely that it transforms people for the remainder of their lives. Another element of near death experiences that is often reported is the incredibly beautiful colors that we don't have here on earth. Of course, I couldn't paint with "heavenly colors," but I did my best to create the illusion by juxtaposing certain colors so that they sort of fluoresce and glow. The medium is Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic. The finish is Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish. The painting is signed on the right edge. The gallery wrap edges are painted black so that framing is not necessary. A hanging wire is attached. A certificate of authenticity is provided.

I am a Texas artist and have painted for most of my 71 years, being from a family of artists. My mother's youngest sister, aunt Patsy, spent a lot of time with me, guiding and encouraging me, and I credit her for my passion for art. She painted under the name of "von." When she died in August of 2018, I began placing "von" somewhere on the face of each painting as an acknowledgment of her role in my artistic endeavors. My inspirations come from my home environment in Texas. Things that I have taken for granted all my life are now frequent subjects for art. Mesquites, cactus, old barns and shacks, windmills, wooden fence posts, wildflowers and the like are favorite subjects. I am a colorist, and I enjoy using color to give new life to otherwise fading beauty. In addition to color, I strive for dimension, movement, depth and unusual perspective.
