I am a painter using watercolor. My painting subjects exist in a shallow space, are composed in a direct manner, and are painted in a simplified realism. While I enjoy painting a variety of objects and plants, figures are a recurring subject choice. The figures are often a version of me. I like to allow the process of painting to develop and to expand my initial ideas, which means that I often change things on the painting surface as I work. I usually paint on Arches 300lb cold press paper using archival grade non-staining watercolor. Both of these choices allow me a certain amount of freedom to manipulate color and shapes. My artwork is a translation of what I see in my world into what I want to see in my painting. I am an elected Member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the Rocky Mountain Watermedia Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and Allied Arists of America. My work has received the AWS High Winds Medallion and the AWS Barse Miller Award; the NWS Beverly Green Collection Purchase Award and NWS Blick/Utrecht Purchase Award; the TWSA Master Watercolorist Medallion; Watercolor West's Master Signature Member; and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society's Crest Medal.
