Is This a Dream? Painting

I enjoy working in water media and building up layers of glazed colors and depth creating a deep, almost see through, visual experience. Multi layers of painted abstraction with figurative essences ghosted and locked within the lines. Inspired by Veronika Krausas's haunting Opera, Hopscotch. The 36 chapters of Hopscotch are divided among three geographic routes — Red, Yellow, and Green – and 10 animated chapters. Taken together, they tell the story of Lucha, Jameson, and Orlando. They encompass the life of Lucha from her quinceañera through her marriage and loss of her husband, until she is an old woman. Painted in concert while replaying continuously the song in Chapter 25-"The Other Woman", “The second of Lucha’s nightmare visions. The audience proceeded level by level back down, where Lucha wanders a labyrinth of images from a noir-ish 1940s dream. Jameson appears as a silent figure, falling in love with a gorgeous ‘Lady in Red,’ standing in for both an idealized past and a potential ‘other woman.’ She ends where she started, with the final line: ‘The past has swallowed you up, and I can’t bring you back.’ “Imagination or psychic manifestation a message a prediction a revelation? If he will look at me, all will be well. Looking backward will save him.”
