"It's Complicated", Series 25 #7 Painting

Series 25 #7 "It's Complicated" 72 x 96 x 1.5 2018 Acrylic on Canvas Please note the subtle gradation of opacity in the black hearts, going from a soft transparent grey on the top left corner of the painting to solid black on the bottom right corner of the painting. This creates an illusion of a change in color in the white background, making the top left corner seem grey-white even though the entire background is a uniform pure white throughout the painting. This large scale work on canvas was created with a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. The stretcher bars are 1.5" thick, there are two notched cross braces, and the canvas is heavy duty #10 double weave duck cotton. This work ships in a crate, includes hanging hardware, and is ready to hang. For a $1,100 discount, ask to have these canvases removed from the stretcher bars and shipped in a tube. Local pick-up or delivery is also an option in Portland, Oregon. ------- My process is modeled after the methods of improvisational theater: I make a mark, then ask myself, “if this is true, what else is true?”, and proceed accordingly. I build the image with a mixture of intuitive responses and researched considerations, drawing inspiration from both my personal life and the world around me. Each image represents an isolated narrative, yet all the images together tell a larger story. My accountability for the truth and permanence of this story is an important part of my identity as an artist. This is why I make all my works in sequential series, and never destroy or hide any of them.
