As an artist, I have always been fascinated by watching what is in front of me and how it can transform. The paint is my partner rather than my subordinate and I try to respect what it does naturally. I begin each piece like a kindergartner, playfully using unusual tools such as squeegees and brushes mounted on long dowels to help distance me from what I know how to do. Each day is a journey of discovery, and each layer and mark reflect the emotional quality of the moment in which they were created. I try to honor and preserve as much of the beginning of a painting as possible, because the early, raw marks are so genuine and are at the core of what the painting is. It's like how as adults we try to hold onto a slice of our innocence and enthusiasm because they’re central to who we are. Some parts are too "too" and so over time we quiet them and reshape them. But the parts that remain are the gems. As I build layers and pare them back down, colors consort and negotiate for space, giving voice to inner truths. In the end, each piece impacts the viewer in the same way that jazz or classical music can, going beyond words and speaking to the universal truth of human experience.

Anne has explored many different media over her career. She is currently interested in exploring color and texture combinations. Her work is very much about process. Anne works intuitively allowing the artwork to evolve; each new brushstroke creates new interactions and puzzles to solve. There is a visual order that emerges. Because of her love for work that reveals the process and the layers that came before, the challenge for Anne is knowing when to stop, when a work is completed and evolved enough, but not so much that the earlier struggles are hidden. Many of Anne's artworks are available reproduced on pillow covers, coffee mugs, phone cases and more at: In addition to being an artist, Anne is a full-time art educator. A proponent of student-directed learning, Anne is a public speaker and who presents about the value of empowering youth to choose work that has meaning for them. She has spoken at both national and local conferences about the power of self-directed learning. Anne is also the author of the interactive iPad book, Choice Without Chaos, available on the iBookstore for any apple device: and in the Kindle bookstore: =pd_ybh_1
