About The Artwork
One's religious beliefs are an intensely personal thing. With this artist, very few are allowed in, and the subject remains private. However, this stance isn't without admissions of guilt, loneliness and terror - themes which this painting aims to capture. The use of blue is to create a sense of isolationism against the black canvas - one's beliefs should remain detached. The device of a cigarette is to add a sense of meandering time. Or is it? Viewers should draw their own conclusions and answers should not be immediately apparent.
