"It's for the Best" Painting

I had begun exploring more media, more surfaces than just canvas and during this period I had order numerous canvases to be stretched on to frames. When I picked them up, each of them was wrapped in protective plastic. In the middle of opening one of the canvases from its protective plastic, I noticed how it ripped with the canvas behind it. Like a window. And I immediately painted a background. A layer. To, in essence, seal the canvas. To force me to include the plastic covering. And I did that to each of these 12 canvases. To me, it wasn't a surprise when each of the pieces had a caged feel to them. All portraits or figurative pieces. And all with an underlying feeling of being trapped. Cornered. Yet still there. Still existing. Just not in an average way. And this reflected what I was going through at the time. In a relationship I no longer felt I had a say in, yet there I was. Still there. And soon after, each of the figures in these paintings took on a life of their own. I called the series of these particular pieces of artwork "Hibernation/Exile" and the title of this expressionistic work is "It's for the Best".
