About The Artwork
Subject & Description: This marbled abstract of our constant human struggle to control our jealous insecurities is composed of soft tones and rich colors that are applied to the canvas in multiple stages, and each layer must dry completely before applying the next layer of semi-transparent colors. Artistic Theme: While listening to the unusual song Green Eyes by Erica Badu, the artist decided to paint a portrait of jealousy. That being impossible, he settled on an abstract approach instead. The initial thick layer of paints (consisting of indigo, green and maroon) were applied in three sections to the canvas -- one color per section and from left to right -- with the intersections being blended. Once that coating of paint dries, additional colors of thinner semi-transparent paint are applied to the canvas and enhanced or softened as needed, and each layer must dry completely before applying the next layer. For the final coating of paints, colors are softened and sharpened to obtain the outcome -- Jealously Extinguished. Reginald Robinson (Reggie) is a native Californian and a graduate of Castlemont High School in Oakland.
