The ‘Iconic Photo' Series is an exploration of renowned imagery through the lens of what I call “Messy Expressionism.” Selecting pivotal moments captured in photography, I aim to deconstruct and reconstruct these familiar visuals, imbuing them with raw emotion and personal interpretation. Through an interplay of color, texture, and form, I challenge the perfection of the original photograph, inviting viewers to engage with the underlying narrative on a visceral level. My intention is to disrupt the static nature of the image, allowing it to pulsate with energy and ambiguity. Embracing the messy and imperfect, I create a dialogue between the iconic and the ephemeral, the here and the gone, inviting the viewer to discover new meaning within the familiar frame. **Original photo (used as reference) by: Neil Liefer - - - From Sports Illustrated, 100 Greatest Sports Photos of All Time: January 1977 | Philadelphia 76ers forward Julius Erving gets full extension on a one-handed dunk against the Denver Nuggets.

ART, LIKE LIFE, HAPPENS BY ACCIDENT. A whiff of control; some semblance of steering. And belief of a firm grip. But we're grasping at the air beneath our feet. The truth is: we don't hold anything. It comes in bits and bobs, dashes and jots - brief glimpses, spaces, sliding out of sight. For truth, is to feel it slip away. And then to try to create it. - - - Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, & often both, my art reflects the intersection between logic and intuition, real and abstract, time and the timeless. - - - - - - - - - Steven Tannenbaum grew up in New Jersey, where he learned how to garden and defend himself.
