Junio, Julio y Agosto Painting

I approach each piece intuitively, allowing colors, textures, and shapes to interact with each other in unexpected ways to create new visual compositions that can influence the viewer’s experience. I start each piece by painting with oil pastel, oil paint, and charcoal on canvas, allowing the gestural marks to dictate each study's result. Then I cut and assemble these studies and other materials like textiles and thread, building my work in layers beyond the flat surface of a canvas. At the same time, the use of my hands while painting, cutting, and sewing is an important part of my working process. It is a way to recognize the relevance of those who use their hands as a tool for work, as well as a continuation of my family's history of manual labor.
