Just Breathe Painting

This work started off very different than what you see here. I started this painting after a good friends funeral. A fantastic lady who was my mentor and boss. She was a one of a kind, just like this painting. I was so emotional that I was just flinging paint and throwing brushes onto the canvas followed by my hands to smear the paint. At this time I also added texture with semi-fine sand. The flinging and the throwing and the grit of the sand showed how emotional I was. Still I was feeling raw after a couple months wondering why such a wonderful person had to leave the earth; until one morning. I had one of those dreams where you wake up crying and laughing at the same time. We had a wonderful visit in where i got to see her one last time and when it was over I felt an umbrella of peace surround me. It was life changing. That night I went to the studio and contemplated how this painting needed to evolve into this tranquil & calm I was now feeling without loosing the emotion that was implanted during the previous session. Now that I was at peace, and her too apparently, I needed this painting to be at peace as well. The chaotic quality needed to be resolved. I needed the dragging heaviness and the sharp abrasive depression to be replaced reflecting the metamorphosis that transpired that morning. Slow brush strokes accompanied by a quiet reserve took this work to where it and of course myself could be understood. The underlying feeling and scars about her death will never fully dissipate, but the knowing that shes my angel will always be stronger and will overcome any sadness that still remains.
