The Big Picture / Heile Welt How much of the past is romanticized; how much was ever true? What present day images will evoke similar responses in the future? Cultural nostalgia is the central theme being examined in this series. Depicted are scenes from old movies, such as the ”heimatfilm” genre from Austria, Germany and Swistzerland from the late 1940s to the early 1970s that evoke endearment and a feeling of well-being. This image shows the ski legend and heart-throb, Toni Sailer, leading his friends down the slope in formation while playing the accordion.... The images hold a reference to digital framing, though, which together with the contemporary colors and distortion create distance and remind us that they are a nostalgic memory. The final image holds as much truth and illusion today as it did in the past.

Austria
Adrienne Egger is an American artist based in Austria. Her prize-winning paintings depicting concepts of our inner worlds through imagery inspired by fleeting moments, the natural world and vintage-chic film scenes, have garnered international recognition. Though working primarily with oils, she incorporates spray paint, patinas, rust, metal leafing, resins and lighting into her art. Egger exhibits regularly in solo and group shows and her work is found in corporate and private collections around the world.
