About The Artwork

(Please Note: The watermarked digital signature on the bottom right hand side of image will be removed on print and is NOT on the original. It is simply there for 'copyright' purposes) My thoughts behind this piece: 'Kaleidoscope I ' - is the first in a collection of works which is an on-going series. I decided to call this collection 'Kaleidoscope' because it reminded me of all the various types of emotion we all go through as a result of life's experiences. Life is like a Kaleidoscope; the constant shift and movement of patterns and colours depicting moments we experience in our lives. Moments of happiness, sorrow, peace joy, pain, love, loss, excitement, fear and so on......How we react to these moments define and shape our thinking, our behaviour and even our character. Just as a kaleidoscope involves the constant shift and movement of patterns and colours, similarly, we too have the power to alter and shift our thinking so that we can make positive and healthy choices; choices that will help us grow, progress, develop, change and even heal...... Certainly, if we can alter our thinking process in a healthy and progressive manner, we have the ability to shape and define our future effectively and productively.

A Primary school teacher by profession for 25 years; (currently working with Special Educational Needs children), I live and work in the city of Bradford (West Yorkshire), UK...………….. My work is simply about the expression and exploration of various types of line to create a multitude and range of Shapes and Pattern. This is a predominant feature of my work. Defining myself essentially as an Abstract artist, I work mainly with Acrylic paint (and mixed media on occasions). I love the freedom to express and create almost in an intuitive and instinctive manner depicting a range of styles from strong, bold geometric shapes to free-flowing, cursive and floral pattern. Sometimes I will use a subject matter or a particular theme depending on the collection. However, the main and dominant feature in my work is, and will always remain, the strong array of shapes, pattern and colour that seem to dominate and essentially, take 'centre stage.'
