Kildonan Bay, on the Isle of Arran, one of Scotland's Western Isles, is a stunning and unspoilt stretch of sandy beach. It has long been a popular painting venue for artists.

I've been travelling around Scotland's islands for more than 20 years and yet had never got out of the car and walked along this lovely bay until a year ago, and I'm so glad I did. It was tremendous inspiration, and the weather was just perfect, so much so that the whole picture, the colours, light, smells and even the feel of the gentle breeze, made a huge impact. I think there will be more paintings from this location in the future.

So, this painting is done in oil paints on a 24" x 24 inch stretched canvas. I have used quite thick expressive paint to portray all the textures that you can see along the coast, from the fine white cockleshell sand to the seaweed and driftwood along the shore, through to the burnt ochres and reds of the grasses, and the deep impenetrable greens of the forest in the distance.

I absolutely loved painting it and I do hope you will feel the same odd mix of excitement and calm that I did. Just look at it! What a wonderful beach scene with it's vivid blues and reds, that glorious white sand. A wonderful piece of wall art.

I've been painting Scotland's west coast for about 30 years now, and am lucky to be successfully represented by some wonderful galleries both in Scotland and in England with whom I have a great relationship. These galleries have held several one man/solo exhibitions for me and even more two or three person shows. Sadly, many high street art galleries have been closing down lately as more people decide to shop online, so this seems a good time to expand my horizons!

This painting is unframed but can be supplied in a simple wide white frame if required, although this will obviously add to the shipping costs. All materials used are of the highest artist's quality.

My name is Jean Feeney. I live in Perthshire, right in the heart of rural Scotland, and I've been a full time professional artist for 30 years. I'm married with two grown up daughters who are off pursuing their own dreams. I'm lucky to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, and I travel extensively throughout Scotland, although my main source of inspiration is the West Coast of Scotland, her Highlands and Islands.
