The scene is set in the 'Waag'; a building in Leiden. Each year the citizens celebrate the Relief of Leiden. It's a tradition to eat herring and white bread. The citizens of Leiden can get it for free in the 'Waag' at the 3rd of October. In the painting many famous people of Leiden are standing in line. That's the funny part of the painting. The famous people for the citizens in Leiden are: Peter Labruyere, Rubberen Robbie, Nico Dijkshoorn, v/d Werff, Rembrandt, Barry Badpak, Jan Wolkers, Armin van Buuren, Jochem Myjer, Diederik Samsom, Alexander Pechtold, Tartuffe and the Zangeres Zonder Naam. A small funny detail: I am standing in line as well. In case I become a well-known citizen in Leiden!
