Ksenya and a Portrait of a Woman (after Rogier van der Weyden) Painting

In this painting from the series “after”, I am integrating an icon of historical portraiture with a contemporary subject to create a double portrait. The painting is staged and painted in the manner of the original source with the inclusion of a contemporary model who bears an uncanny resemblance to the historical sitter. My models are all interacting with their electronic devices. I am commenting on the uncanny similarity of genetics contrasted with the vast difference in lifestyles. I am investigating an imaginary realm, blending different periods in time, mixing the real and the invented and offering a uniquely impossible image.
