About The Artwork

“Ihdinas Siratal Mustaqim — Guide is to the straight path.” -Quran : 01:06 This Ayat holds a very special place in my heart and is one of my most favourite verse from the Quran. It’s an important reminder for us to follow the path guided by Allah. No matter how many people may try to divert you from it, no matter how many optional by-ways are open in life we should always know the Sirat. Al-Mustaqim. The main highway which goes towards Him the fastest, without any left/right turns, with the guaranteed destination being Allah (SWT). Letter ‘و-waaw’ holds significant value in Arabic numerology. In Islamic Sufi tradition ‘waaw’ symbolises a lot of things, among those most important would be divine Love, divine and Unity. It’s shape symbolizes the shape of human, either in mother’s womb (a fetus) or while bowing in prayer. While searching and learning about sufism I came to know about the meaning of 3 words: Alif, Dal, Mim which symbolizes The three main positions of the Islamic prayer: •Standing, like the alif
•Kneeling, like the dal •bowing, like the mim. While I was creating this artwork, I had no idea of what I’m gonna create. And so, I held my brush and pondered over the idea that may be I can be creative with this. My hand eventually wrote ‘waaw’ after which I decided to go something related with Sufism. I have challenged myself to do something completely different from my usual designs and artworks.
