Mattéo Nicoli, born in 2000, lives and works in Amiens. A French visual artist, Mattéo holds a degree in Fine Arts, where he developed an open-minded approach and a deep understanding of art. While his academic training nurtured his interest in art, he remains largely self-taught, refining his technique through experimentation and personal exploration. Mattéo Nicoli’s work revolves around a withdrawn gaze, a discreet presence in the face of the world. He explores the feeling of being there without intervening, of staying on the margins, at a distance. His pieces take the shape of open windows onto abstract skies, where light, space, and time appear suspended. The window, a central motif in his practice, acts as a silent threshold: it allows for observation without exposure, contemplation without intrusion. Painted with acrylic spray paint and sometimes enhanced with brushwork, his works are created through a precise, controlled, almost invisible gesture. He builds his own supports and frames, integrating every element as part of a unified whole. Through subtle gradients inspired by the transitions from day to night, he composes calm, luminous atmospheres that invite escape or simply presence. These motionless fragments open a parenthesis, a space for contemplation, where one can observe without the need for interpretation.
