Kyrgyz Borik Painting

This painting from my series of headdresses represents Kyrgyz Börik (a cap). This type of headdress was typically worn by young girls and boys. Börik is a round hat, lined with fur and trimmed with velvet. The girl's cap differed from the man's in that the fur band was always out and did not turn back. A borik is a round hat lined with fur and trimmed with velvet. A maiden's hat differed from a man's hat in that the fur ribbon was always outward and not turned away. In addition to the hat itself in this composition, the hat is worn over a Kyrgyz traditional cap (the base for many Kyrgyz headdresses). The decorative element is the long silver jewelry. This type of headwear is more likely to be worn by a young unmarried girl. In this painting the artist wanted to emphasize the beauty, youth and perky age of the wearer of this headdress.
