ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I have just recently upgraded to painting on larger canvases. This is my second painting on a canvas of 36" by 24" I find these canvases to be of the appropriate size for painting a depiction of stained glass windows that you see in old churches. I have always been attracted to these colorful depictions of scenes from the Bible and the life of Jesus Christ, so well portrayed in these windows. They are absolutely unique and I am in awe of the person - Benedict Biscop, who first came up with this absolutely magnificent idea. I am particularly attracted to the fact that since the scene is created using colored glass, it is translucent and when the sun light passes through this colored glass, the scene seems to come to life. It give each depiction a divine, enchanting and enthralling experience that a true admirer could spend hours just trying to absorb in the mesmerizing charm of these scenes. This painting is a representation of Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper in the form of a stained glass window. Surprisingly, it took me exactly 33 days to complete this painting, which is coincidently the approximate age of Jesus Christ when he died. I would love my audience to enjoy this artwork as if it were being viewed on the wall of some beautiful church or chapel.

The inclination towards painting and art was a natural transition. Being the daughter of an Architect who was an extraordinary artist himself meant that Ritina was exposed to drawings, precision, structure and expression of art from a very young age. Though, she did engage in painting during her academic years, it was more of a hobby and pass time activity whenever she needed to empty her mind and relax, which just faded away unknowingly as if pushed to the back burner. During her formative years, she engaged in a great deal of painting techniques, like fabric painting, art on pottery, and wooden surfaces, all just a source of enjoyment. It wasn’t till very recent times that she really started pursuing this passion seriously. Her works of art have been sold and gifted to a lot of her friends and family. The recent years have been an interesting journey, where she looks back and see’s the transformation of an amateur to a more professional level as an artist. However, the more interesting part has been her enjoying every single moment of this journey. The more she learns, the more she realizes, how much she does not know about the infinite spectrum of art! Living in the peaceful town of Tennessee, USA, has been a blessing, as it has let Ritina explore and express her creativity through every new piece of art she creates. Losing track of time when engrossed in art is so very true for this artist, who toils for perfection, by giving each piece of artwork her true heart and soul. So rightly said in her own words – “Each piece of my artwork is like a piece of me being reflected through it. They are me in the form of a painting.” Guess it is true that when passion becomes profession, you never work again! A self-taught artist, with no training in the field of art and painting, she has reached her present level of skill through practice and watching other artists at work on the internet. She enjoys using various surfaces, mediums and textures for painting and is always keen to try out something new. Doing commissioned artwork is a challenge which gives her an opportunity to stretch her limits even further. Recently, she ventured into portrait painting too, which is a whole new arena by itself. Basically, her preferred medium has always been acrylics, due to its speedy drying time. Sometimes the use of oils, where blending and creating textures, has always been simpler, also indulges her.
