This is a piece of art which is an allegory. On this work, I painted a transversal cut of a tree trunk where the tree concentric rings are seen. As we know those tree rings are formed as the tree grows. Each ring marks one seasons, or one year. Those rings are not all the same. They are different shades, forms, even thickens, like our lives. Not every year is the same in our lives. Some are better than others, some are lighter. Some years have been heavier than others and we are happy to say good by to them on new year’s eve. Painted with acrylics using brushes. A final varnish coat preserves the colors for extended time and protects the painting from dust and UV rays. Edges are painted, requires no framing, so it is ready to hang. The painting is signed on the side. Certificate of Authenticity included.

By training a psychiatrist, Sonia is a self-taught artist born in Peru. Currently retired, she lives in Ontario Canada. Many years ago, an intrinsic need for painting arose in me. I was felt moved by an interior force to look for brushes and pour my soul on sheets of canvases, paper, etc. Right then, I began to dedicate the few hours of my free time to immerse myself into my new discovery. I started by challenging myself with watercolors. I also tried myself in oils. Still, most of my work today is done in acrylics. As for my subjects, in the course of this discovery; I found inspiration in portraiture, nude, and landscape. Not long ago, I discovered abstract painting. Since, I spend my days enjoying this magical world. A world of color and unlimited imagination. I discovered that abstract is the kind of art that jealously hides all its rules and laws. To me, abstract painting is challenging, but it’s a challenge that makes me happy with myself. But most importantly, through this challenge, I reconciliate with the universe and with my own existence. Looking at my art it is easy to appreciate my love for color. Color makes paintings expressive. Contrasting colors evoke the mixed, often opposite feelings that sometimes overwhelm us. Bright colors subtly flirt with the eye and elicit positive emotions in us.
