How comforting would it be to stop for a while and observe a leaf's geometric shape in detail, or the surface of the drain cover in front of the house, or the perfect braid of the cables that hold up the Brooklyn Bridge, or simply the irregular creases made when folding a piece of paper? All of these details and many more are beauty, invisible beauty. That is why I decided to rescue that old pastime of capturing the features of a coin's surface on paper by rubbing it with a pencil, and capturing the surfaces in cities through this technique called RELIEFGRAPHY. This is my way of capturing these details to validate them for people with their real dimensions, but breaking down their three-dimensional nature on a piece of paper; using their shapes to create new shapes. A way of providing a testimonial to show that 'this thing' that viewers are appreciating was in a specific place, which was taken from a real element, and that this paper had contact with that element. A way of showing that behind every picture there is a story; a journey; hours and hours of walks through the city; people looking or asking; torn up paper; and wind that prevented me from working.

I was born in Bogota, Colombia. I am a graduate of Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogota and have been refining my work for more than 15 years, while also working as an art director and creative director at some of the top advertising agencies in Colombia. I decide to rescue the features of surfaces throughout a city by rubbing a pencil on paper over different surfaces (Frottage). Afterwards it goes through a process I created and named RELIEFGRAPHY. This is my way of capturing forgotten details, to validate them and break down their three-dimensional nature on a piece of paper, using their shapes to create new shapes. A testimonial to show that "this thing" that viewers are appreciating was in a specific place, taken from a real element and that this paper had contact with that element. A way of showing that behind every picture there is a story; a journey; hours and hours of walks through the city, people looking or asking, torn up paper and wind that prevented me from working.
