About The Artwork
This work captures a moment in the life of a young person waiting by the pool. She is relaxed and confident, and her expression is inscrutable. She is not giving away what she is feeling or thinking: the viewer may only guess. The subject here is not a professional model and she is not posing for the painting. I was struck by the angles she inadvertently created through her body, by the expression on her face, and by the vibrancy of the stripes on her swimsuit against the bright yellow chair, whose proportions are exaggerated here. With this painting I aimed to contrast the intricacies of the face and body with minimalist lines only suggesting the swimming pool around her. It is realised in acrylic paint on cotton canvas, fitted with d-rings, and signed front and back.
