Did you ever wonder what the world would look like if you were the size of an insect? Like in the story of ‘Eric’ (by Godfried Bomans)? As a child, the artist didn’t know Godfried Bomans, so Paul Biegel’s story “The Little Captain” fed her imagination. With the help of her 10 year old son, who has colorblindness, Eekhout repainted "Land of Big & Growth 01" with different colors. Colors that are beautiful for someone with red / green color blindness. The painting is ready to hang. Because the sides are painted there is no need for a frame. The painting is made with bright pink and blue tones that stand out for people with colorblindness. Details of silver colored leaf metal give the blue sky a beautiful shimmer.

We can experience a whole range of feelings and emotions just by looking at those signs. From an early age I have been fascinated by letters. When I look at letters, I see beautifully designed figures. What I find so fascinating is that we don’t or hardly don’t see those figures anymore, once we can read. You are immediately transported to the world behind the letters. Based on this fascination, I want to show how text and image intertwine in my head. How they enter into a symbiosis with each other. I do this by making paintings in which I interweaves image and text. I use gold leaf and silver leaf that reflect the light in a different way each time you walk by. This brings the painting to life and makes it look different every time you look at it.
