Mandala inspired by ancient and more recent Egyptian motifs (the combination of sparkling gold, papyrus buds, gorgeous lapis lazuli blue, and Islamic-art decagons.)
The nightlight composition is the product of doped strontium aluminate mixed into my own recipe paints. My photoluminescent pigments are waterproof and OSHA-rated toy-safe. The minerals are excited (charged) by any visible light- sunlight or artificial: no special bulbs needed.
The painting will charge in about 10 minutes but will glow longer/brighter with an hour of light exposure. The green starts with a luminance of over 6000 mcd/m2. The blue starts at 950 mcd/m2, but sheds light more slowly, so by morning it looks brighter than the green. Painting will glow between 8 and 20 hours.
Canvas is 15 oz.-heavy-weight, double-gessoed, acid free, hemmed on all sides so it need not be stretched over a frame. Steel hanging rings included. Painting can be rolled up for transport.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This mandala was inspired by ancient and more recent Egyptian motifs- sparkling gold, papyrus buds, lapis lazuli blue for the ancient, and Islamic-art decagons for the less ancient. The nightlight composition is the product of doped strontium aluminate mixed into my paint. I make the glow paint myself from the raw minerals for maximum luminance. It is waterproof and rated toy-safe. The minerals are excited (charged) by any visible light- no special bulbs needed and it will glow 10 to 20 hours from exposure to any visible light. Canvas is unstretched, heavy-weight, and hemmed on all sides. YouTube Video of the painting in progress: Lapis, There And Back, Topo Lit Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bii_C_2m1Cw :32 seconds

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

The driving force of my art is curiosity. Each piece begins with the question “What if?” What if I use these colors, textures, materials, techniques, or objects together? Each work is a surprise package I get to slowly open. I study art, and in my head I divide the field between decorative art that people want in their homes, which is great, and “arty” art that is innovative, original, and sometimes gallery-worthy. I often fail but generally aim for the elusive territory between the two- attempting to create things pleasing to the eye that people might want to live with, while pushing out boundaries for both everyday and more sophisticated art lovers. A unique recurring feature of most of my work is the inclusion of photoluminescent strontium aluminate doped with rare earths. I make the pigments myself for maximum luminance. The works are thereby two compositions, one by day and a second, rather magical composition that appears at night. I employ super-bright child-safe minerals that shed light for 10 to 20 hours after exposure to any visible light, and that continue to be “re-excitable” for decades. I do not have a single style because my relentless curiosity leads me in many directions as I constantly explore new materials, tools, techniques, and “What if?” questions.
