About The Artwork

Berek Fiszman died on 15th of March, 1942 at the age of 20 in a concentration camp. This portrait is painted after a photo taken upon his registration by the nazis. The artwork is aiming at honouring the victim. All signs of the prison camp, like the striped cloth and identification numbers, are removed. The colourful image shall give him back dignity and personality - so that the black and white photo the nazis took will not be the last picture and hence the last triumph of his torturers.
