About The Artwork

Febuary 2018 16x16cm Acrylic on latex sheeting stretched on panel Latex colour: satin red purple This painting is from a series of 4 experimental pieces made directly on top of stretched latex* sheeting. The figures from the paintings are taken directly out of photographs from the publication 'Torture Garden: A Photographic Archive of the New Flesh' published in 1996. I was researching the idea of escapism in the fetish underground community, and wanted to make something a little different, more representative to the experience. The surface is really smooth, and there is no hanging hardware included. (Special care to be taken to ensure no damage to the material over time eg.prolonged exposure to sunlight) *Latex is a natural, eco product. Sometimes latex is mistaken for a plastic, but it is not. Latex sheeting is made from the sustainable sap of the Hevea Brasiliensis tree. The sap it tapped from a slit in the tree, and made into latex... the latex rolls are is freighted by boat to England, or the liquid latex sap is shipped to a factory in the UK and made into latex.

I am a London based painter born in Olsztyn, Poland. Currently my paintings combine the traditional visual of drapery and the fold with the modern highly reflective material of latex. They focus on the fall of light, and the colours and shapes that are created by the reflections. I consider my practice to be both hyper-realistic and abstract. The work tries to provoke a haptic way of looking, and seeks a connection to your feelings and senses. Seduction, desire and the fetish are some of the key ideas I consider during the making of the work. ***Full artist statement available on website***
