Let Your Light Shine Painting

What does it mean to bring light to others? We cannot know what struggles and challenges others might be facing as we interact with them in our daily lives. We cannot know how much it might mean to them to bring the light of hope, to care, to uplift them and share our joy. We cannot know how burdened others might feel, or how dark their inner world might be. A kind word from us, or a caring gesture, might be just what they need in this moment. The light of Christ dispels the darkness of this world, so never doubt the value of the power that you have to let Jesus shine His light into the lives of everyone you meet today. My inspiration for this painting is the Gospel of Matthew 5:14-16, in which Jesus says, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” These words have been collaged, in different sizes, upon the canvas. As I reflected upon Our Lord’s words, I created an abstraction that suggests the woven elements of a basket, in a warm composition of amber, orange, and yellows, complimented by red and blue purples. Hanging hardware is already installed, and the painting has been given a satin varnish for protection.
