About The Artwork

This piece uses textured modelling paste and acrylic to create movement and light, with each square representing different shades of the ocean. I wanted to draw on the calmness that I feel when I am in or near the water, and used the different shades of blue in each square to bring to life the feeling of floating in the water, and the release of stress, anxiety and tension through movement. This piece comes framed in a stunning sustainable Blackwood timber by Southern Buoy and is ready to hang (framed size is 153.5cm wide x 123.4cm high). The piece has been varnished, but I recommend hanging out of direct sunlight.

Liz is an Australian artist based in Black Rock, Victoria, specialising in geometric abstract and mixed media pieces, using acrylic and origami paper on canvas. Liz is deeply influenced by the remote natural landscape surrounding my childhood home in Northern Tasmania. She studied the Japanese language as a child and draw on her passion for Japanese culture through inclusion of origami paper and gold leaf as a reference to Kintsugi (the art of repairing broken pottery). "I use painting as a form of meditative expression, seeking to create pieces that inspire calmness and evoke an appreciation for the beauty of nature." Her technique involves drafting then filling geometric angles, progressively creating a gradient of depth and movement. She draws on her love of architecture and background in architectural drafting through angles, geometry and connections, and often find hints of ocean or forest inspiration finding its way into her practice. "I love to consider how light reacts in different environments. The geometric angles are intended to convey the strength of the subject and my appreciation for simplification and structure."
