Drawing from the rich traditions of Renaissance and Latin American art to create majestic figurative pieces for private homes and public spaces. The artist says: “Rooted firmly in classical principles, my art merges time-tested oil painting techniques and semi-abstraction to pressing contemporary themes and universal human struggles, resulting in monumental semi-sculptural paintings.” ​ Each artwork is unique to a particular client. Reproductions are never made. Thus, guaranteeing the exclusive nature of the artist's creative process. Exquisite quality is further assured by the use of pure oil paints made by traditional methods by master paint makers guaranteeing color vibrancy and longevity. In her work, the more traditional aspects of oil painting are combined with videography, soundscapes, installations, social media participation and mixed-mediums to create engaging and powerful contemporary pieces. ​ Brazilian by birth and educated in Paris, London, New York and Florence Vandëm worked extensively abroad before settling in the North East of Scotland. Her work currently sits between Realism and Abstraction, painting and sculpting where each sitter or painting-series becomes a short story that begins and ends in itself. ​ The artist’s strong track record in the world of portraiture, sees her working on many private commissions including painting the formal portrait of the Bishop of Aberdeen. Her artwork can be found on many national and international private collections as well as luxury hotels such as Fife Arms Hotel owned by international art dealer Iwan Wirth.
