Corvin believes abstract paintings need to emit an energy from the painter’s inner life. Excitement, wonder, joy for the natural world and how it resounds within her can be seen and felt in her mixed media works. Her hope is that the colors, shapes, and marks will vibrate within the viewer and evoke feelings of beauty, connection, and something inexplicable within themselves. “I see painting as an exciting process of taking inspiration from nature and combining it with my personal feelings”, states Corvin. “Color is a strength of mine. I love playing with color and building colorful palettes to express part of my deeper emotions. But playfulness and spontaneity are also important elements to my process. Building layers of marks, first bold dark marks, then followed by colorful shapes and a variety of lines to create a sense of history and a composition that communicates a sense of natural and unique forms from nature.” The ultimate outcome of Corvin’s process are artworks that give the viewer feelings that uplift and resound. And even might remind one of the deeper sense of connection we all have to the earth on which we stand.

I loved laying in the grass looking at clouds as a kid. Those memories and feelings still fill my imagination. Shapes in nature spark my creativity. My artwork is about reclaiming that sense of wonder from looking at nature. Searching for that sensation of aliveness. All the while working from my intuition for authenticity. Ultimately my visual language of shapes, marks and lines bring forth (expresses a part of my life’s journey) the feelings we all share of joy, beauty, curiosity, and our fundamental humanness. At age 40 years old, I decided to dedicate both my professional and personal life to the art world. I received a Masters in Museum Administration, worked as a museum educator for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and began learning how to paint. She has studied at the California College of Arts and with numerous painting teachers. Originally from New Jersey, I now live and work in my home studio in the East Bay Hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. A founder the Piedmont Center for the Arts, Corvin, I also enjoy encouraging emerging artists as administrator of an annual juried art show now in its eighth year.
