This painting is part of my work from a trip to British Columbia, Canada. In that project, I use my memories, sketches and photos to express themes I work on : ecology, sharing and the future… Here, the old bridge of Lilloet is a perfect support. First, this bridge is an historical monument, it include the timescale of humanity by its nature as also the river. A bridge allows to see that a change is coming : a different future than the life we had before. A bridge is also a symbol for our mortality (path to the other side). The Fraser River is also ideal: this river is very wild and an historical symbol of discovery. It’s asymbol for a furiously dynamic life, for a tumultuous and promising future. On this bridge the nest of osprey reminds us that our lives are overshadowed by our greed (and by those of others ...even if we do not realize it at first)The dog looklikes to an almost-wolf, thereby it is a symbol of both our fidelity and our freedom : fidelity to our values, freedom to act in conscience. Light or shadow... it is up to us to choose the future of our children. It took me 2 years to finish this work, I had to think a lot about all versions I could have done, with more or less informations, the process ending with this artwork you are watching today.
