About The Artwork
It was quite a challenge and a turning point for me when I actually had set out to figure out and develop my own artistic kind of individuality and through it something very important, significant and essential - signature, so much so that I actually made the whole three of them - lettering, classic flow signature and also a graffiti tag. I figured since my art portfolio is quite diverse would be handy and fun to have a couple of signatures to work with for different styles. For some reason it took me a while to just try and draw a bunch of them to see what would work but this final one hit immediately. I thought it was very unique and unlike anything there was out there, pretty compact, noticeable and because of it's kind of squared shape it almost works as a piece itself, it just lands itself nicely in many ways and purposes. I started making more drawings and just fooling around with graffiti like sketches and tags incorporating it in but then I thought would be cool to challenge it and see if it could even make a piece or two just using the tag, using it as a constant but in different sizes, densities, colours and mediums, so I almost looked at it as like a dot for a spot paintings, because at that time I was heavy on pointillism, so that kind of bled through as well. I think it was Picasso who used or even originated incorporating signature as a part of design in a painting, not trying to hide it, but rather highlight it. I got really excited about it and since then have done quite a series of drawings and paintings in that style. I look at it like almost abstract expressionism pieces where it doesn't matter what it is that it consists of, what matters is the whole piece looking integral and you variate mood and theme not as directly, but rather indirectly - by colours, intensity, sizes etc. There would be artworks that I wouldn't even sign on the front, but then others would have nothing but a bunch of my own tags for a painting.
