ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Listening for Currawongs is inspired by the rolling farm hills near where I live. When the sky is dark with clouds, getting ready to rain, the Currawong bird sings its rain song. The painting is full of light and almost glows through the golden fields. It has a peaceful, tranquil feeling to it, even with the pending storm. It give a feeling of satisfaction for the end of a productive day with the easing of tension as the storm rolls across the sky.

Brisbane, (Australia) born and raised, Narelle Callen is a visual artist and designer who has always loved art, drawing and painting. Raised in an artistic, creative family, Narelle spent much of her childhood and teenage years in northern New South Wales at her family beach house, photographing and capturing details of the beach and surrounds, that holiday feeling, sense of freedom and adventure. She continued this through her design study and still does this, interpreting these details in her art work. After studying Industrial Design at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Narelle worked for a number of years in both architectural and interior design. She went on to complete a Masters of Project Management with The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. After 17 years of getting quite absorbed and rather lost in large infrastructure projects, and finding herself more and more distracted with the driving need to create something meaningful and artistic herself, she returned to an artistic, creative career and is currently building her business, The Callen Collective, into a thriving arts business. Her artwork hangs in private collections in Australia and internationally. She is based on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, south east of Melbourne in Australia.
