ABOUT THE ARTWORK
There is nothing more freeing then seeing a flamenco dancer spin. The way the dress ruffles and flies around her and yet her top half stays in complete control. It's as if the world can spin off of it's orbit and she never looses her grip or gaze. In that moment everyone watching her wishes to be her, to feel that control amongst the chaos. Although this painting isn't huge in size, I believe the movement and the texture could hardly be contained. It's as if she is bigger then anything around her. Using mostly palette knives, acrylics and gel medium I created this painting in layers. First, I painted the darks in the background and then began to paint her and then her dress. Finding the right combination of thickness, movement and still holding that control up top was a challenge, but I love the way she finished up.
