These paintings refer to the song 'La Llorona' based on the myth of 'La Llorona', 'The Weeping Woman'. 'La Llorona' is a legendary ghost prominent in folklore of Spanish America and is present throughout Mexican culture. The story tells of a beautiful woman by the name of Maria who drowns her children in a river as a means of revenge, because her husband left her for a younger woman. When she realizes what she has done, she drowns herself in the river. After she is challenged at the gates of heaven over the whereabouts of her children, she is not permitted to enter the afterlife until she has found them. Maria is forced to wander the Earth for all eternity, searching in vain for her drowned offspring. She constantly weeps, hence her name "La Llorona" and she is caught between the living world and the spirit world. La Llorona is said to kidnap wandering children at night who resemble her missing children. She asks them for forgiveness, then drowns the children to take the place of her own. She is said to cry, ¡Ay mis hijos! or Oh my children! One of the most beautiful interpretations of the song ‚La Llorona’, based on the myth, is sung by Doña Chavela Vargas.

German painter Tom F. Klein has a keen eye for observing the world around him. He finds inspiration in the everyday and the people he encounters, capturing fleeting moments and subtle details. He is deeply influenced by the ‘Künstlergruppe Die Brücke'. Tom, as his idols from 'Die Brücke' did, loves to use unusually strong, unnatural colors to jolt the viewer and provoke an emotional response. He creates vivid contrasts and uses various techniques to intensify his subjects' features and deepen the mystery behind their faces. The effect is bold, but it does not overshadow the subject. Tom has a unique fascination with human beauty, which he sees in every ethnic group. He explores the irrational, fabulous, and romantic aspects that lie beneath people's appearances, and his portraits evoke sensuality, sensitivity, and an appreciation for beauty, including male beauty. He believes that male beauty is often overlooked in the art world and is passionate about bringing it back into focus. ‘The male beauty in arts give us an insight into what is special about masculinity, a vulnerable, sensual side is revealed to us. Lately a new kind of man, of male beauty has emerged, a strong man with a touch of femininity which makes 'the man' even more interesting. Tom has lived in various countries, including Germany, Argentina, Mexico, and China, and spent considerable time in the USA. He moved back to Germany in 2021. Successful exhibitions in Mexico and China brought him a lot of interest and have helped him build a large following especially in Asia. Tom’s paintings have found their way into private collections worldwide, including Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico City, Bogotá, France, Spain, Ireland, Zurich, Hamburg, and Berlin.
