ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is in the series "Geographies of the imagination", and exhibited in France. The painting is an imaginary landscape. We remember places in a fragmented manner, so looking at this painting for at least 15 seconds will trigger your mind to draw on stored memories of places; this painting may remind you of somewhere, with all its associations (smells, people, colours, etc.)

I aspire to capture that primal instant when art resonates with our senses, evoking both emotional and intellectual reactions. When art achieves this, it transcends possession and assumes a profound significance in our lives. It is in this essence of being indispensable that the true value of art lies. Each painting, therefore, always tells the truth. In Toronto I ran an art brokerage business which enabled me to work with interior designers and others on the placement of art in the workplace as well as in the home. When I worked as a consultant at ATKearney in London, we often invited clients to our offices in Berkeley Square to view possible corporate art for acquisition. I enjoyed working with the curators for these shows and introducing our clients to the art and meeting the artists. I am keen to engage with those who have an interest of art in the workplace or designers looking for art. As a painter of abstracts I have an historical interest in abstract expressionism, futurism, Japanese abstraction and interesting modern and contemporary painters charting new directions. I hope I am one of them. I write about art and have published, including a regular feature in Art of England magazine, now ceased publication. I have produced a guide to painting abstract art. I also lead workshops for adults on free expression using Japanese brush techniques (sumi-e) and liquid watercolours. My paintings have homes in the US, Canada, Belgium, United Kingdom, Malta, and France. I am a Canadian having lived in the UK, Belgium, Malta and now in France.
