A small boat floats beneath towering abstract forms — scattered rectangles and textured blocks that hint at lost buildings, forgotten homes, or memories once alive. My name is Pari,(parvin Imani) a self-taught visual artist from Iran, currently living in Sulaymaniyah. I hold a Master of Business Administration degree and have a diverse background in journalism and professional mountaineering. I worked as a journalist for 15 years and spent 20 years as a professional mountaineer, including time as a national team member and instructor. After a physical injury and being forced to leave my job in journalism, I found refuge and healing in art—especially during the isolation of the COVID-19 era. Over the past five years, I have pursued art seriously and developed a deep connection with nature, texture, and emotional storytelling through painting. My work is primarily conceptual and abstract, focusing on emotional depth, inner transformation, and the psychological boundary between the self and the world. I use a wide variety of materials in my work, including textured paste, newspaper fragments, fabric, wood, and found objects, to create layered and symbolically rich compositions. As a woman in a traditional society, I have often been denied equal opportunities in professional, athletic, and social spheres—even in my personal life. But in art, I have never felt restricted. Art is the one space where I can fully express myself and be truly free.
