Lost in the Woods Painting

This painting is a metaphor of how it feels when we we're distant from God. It's so easy to get lost in our journey, to listen to other voices than God's. Depression, confusion, darkness all ensue. The dark woods represent that. However, Christ brings hope. The light shining through the dark woods represents that hope & the light he finds within. The man (made in the image of God) is looking at his reflection in the pond & is seeing the Hope within Him since Christ lives within him & is then reminded how to get out of the darkness. He's "crying out" to God through the poem "scratched" onto the tree. I wanted it to look similar to what it would look like if someone were to write on a tree. I hope that this painting brings hope to a weary soul & reminds him/her where the Source of true Hope lies. Jesus is the way, the truth, & the life. Painting with original poem by me when I was a sophomore or junior in high school (Not sure of the exact date anymore as I didn't know about dating my artwork at that point). I think my only painting I signed on the left side. At this point, I just signed however I felt went with the painting. Because this one had an original poem of mine & to continue with making it look like the poem was scratched onto the tree, I wanted my signature to be the same as well & I felt another signature on the right would take away from the painting.
