This is one work in the series I call “interchangeable” where multiple panels are designed to fit together in a myriad of orientations and possibilities. The interchangeable format allows flexibility for scene changes as our lives move along, adapting with us as our needs and interests change. Much like my experience of love.

There is a lot to look at in this work. The two panels fit together to form a Heart shape, a subtle spiral pattern in the background symbolizing the growth/evolution of our love. The heart itself is formed of two curvilinear forms as symbols for the “curve of beauty” this idea from the Ancient Greek that beauty can be distilled into a single arabesque.

Intellectually I like this idea of chaos and structure coming together to form something beautiful, and this is what I am after with this work.

Hello, my name is Zalman. I have had a love affair/affliction with art and art making for most of my life. I began painting in 1996, and studied with Myron Barnstone at his Atelier in Coplay, PA around 1999, the same time I fell in to the Wine Trade in Manhattan, working with Michael Green (Gourmet Magazine, TVFN, Subzero and various Fortune 500 companies). Many iterations, Grand Award Restaurants and Food and Wine pairings later, 2008 in Seattle I went through Artist Trust's EDGE professional development program. I am still painting. Perhaps one day I will get it right. Mostly I am in love with the process of becoming, of growth and change. The experience of vital art objects and my own lively art practice has encouraged and challenged my feeling of depth and richness in life. I am happy to share the fruits of this artistic research, this desire and satisfaction that the quest for Beauty provides. I find Art is a shared experience, a conversation that happens between the maker and receiver. I am often surprised and fascinated with this shared mystery of perception. I very much look forward to your response to the work, Dear Viewer. For me, it is this exchange of ideas I find most valuable in Art. Thanks for visiting! All good things, -Zal. http://www.zalGOODS.com http://www.zalMania.com https://zalmanberkowitz.see.me
