About The Artwork
This is an old one, but as I am born in the South-West of the Netherlands, stories about the sea and the flood in 1953 were part of my youth. This inspired me to this painting. A drowned village, a boat, dark, threatening weather and yet, some light. I think it is not completely desperate. Just an impression of what it might have been for my parents and grandparents, who had to sit on the first floor of their house, with a bunch of neighbors, waiting for the rescue troops to come.
