About The Artwork
The artist began the painting by applying thin layers of paint with a spatula. By applying paint in this manner unpredictable outcomes are part of the painting process. The thin layers allow for the transparency of color and the illusion of depth with in the piece. The upper most layer was created by using silver acrylic, so the painting appears differently depending on the light. The colors used in making this painting are very subtle and the work has a contemporary look. “Lustre” is part of Robin Ballard’s “Elements” series where she explores ways to visually interpret chemical elements, and naturally occurring phenomena. As with all of Robin Ballard's paintings, “Lustre” is stretched on a wooden frame and easy to hang.
