Contemporary, elegant, abstract art. Ready to hang. As an artist and psychotherapist, S. Mangelsen directs close attention to the effect and influence of colors. Carefully selected, they are put onto canvas in bold gestural strokes to the rhythm of jazz music, which create her very own style of elegant, informal art. Lavender tones and violet are said to evoke passion, power, feminity, spirituality and intelligence. Moreover, Sophie Mangelsen emphasizes their healing effect and soft association with sweet melancholy. _________________________________________________ Painting to smooth jazz rhythms Sophie Mangelsen creates her very own gestural abstractions with constant visual interest of jazzy elegance. Psyche ? Consciousness ? Through my artwork, I depict the poles of human existence and perception, including the unconscious. As an artist and psychologist, I express the plurality of the mind, the psyche, internal landscapes determined by harmony and dysharmony, balance and imbalance. Inspired by that plurality, my work reflects an impulsive yet tranquil sense of being as well as conscious and unconscious paths of mind in a contemporary informal art style. Having lived, painted and studied in Berlin, Paris and Leipzig, I am happy to have participated in shows around Europe and most recently in China. Through my art, perception is deconstructed, reduced to the essential and the fragments reassembled. Harmony and disharmony, balance and imbalance - inner landscapes of the complexity of the mind. In complementary and contrasting colours I travel through mountains of emotions. Characteristic are the tensions between contrasting colours and a return to organic, feminine forms. As in inner landscapes, the work depicts feelings at a certain point in time and emphasize their contrasts. Being inspired by my professional experience as a psychologist and training as a depth-psychologically oriented therapist, through the duality between darkness and euphoric explosion of colour, my informal style reflects an impulsive search for meaning, striving for peace. The values of painting led me to experimenting with various techniques and material and evolving throughout my artistic career. Dedicated to the exploration and the freedom of the abstract form, I employ bold forms of colour and process to create. My current works are all acrylics on canvas in bigger formats. I am happy to have participated in various exhibitions (Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Slowenia, Bulgaria), won some international prizes (e.g. European Competition) as well as had my first solo exhibition in Paris 2018. The artist lives in Berlin Kreuzberg.

Sophie Mangelsen creates her very own and characteristically gestural abstractions, giving them her very personal touch of elegance, rhythm and finesse, all in a Berlin understatement vibe. Her informal art appeals to introspection and evokes an inner and outer dialogue with the viewer - posing questions about consciousness and unconsciousness, harmony and disharmony, balance and imbalance - to inner landscapes of the complexity of our mind. Sophie Mangelsen, from Berlin, is additionally inspired on her journey by her experience as a psychologist and therapist. She studied at the Université Paris VIII and the University of Leipzig and found her form of expression in painting already in her youth. Her paintings are shown at international exhibitions and are in private collections around the world. In 2022 she was invited as a jury member in the international competition of BALTHASART. The artist lives in Berlin Kreuzberg.
